Recently I took the kids for a short trip to the Blue Mountains to get “a fresh nose” as my Dutch Mum would say. Such a lovely time to explore great walks with them, be amazed by the incredible views and smell the clean mountain air.
Our clothes definitely needed to be warm and we used layers to keep out the huge gusts of icy cold wind.
That inspired me to share some of my short trip style tips and a little fashion inspiration to go with that. If you need help packing for your trip then it would be an honour to assist. Click here to find out more.
SHORT TRIP STYLE TIP #1
The destination of where you are going will have its own vibe to get in tune with while packing.
A weekend away to Melbourne is different than a mid-week trip to Hobart. Or a few days exploring the Gold Coast requires a different pack list than the Hunter Valley. Venues and activities will be different and you will need to pack a tailored combination of layers and shoes.
SHORT TRIP STYLE TIP #2
The weather is everything. Having a rough idea of what the weather will be like will save you from freezing or overheating, so you are just right.
Recently we went on a cruise, our first cruise from Sydney to New Caledonia. Around Easter, so not quite so warm anymore. Even though I had preprogrammed the weather in my weather app for the places where we would stop. But I had no way of knowing how cold it would be on board the ship and what the temperature was at sea. I needed warm layers more than I did bathing suits that is for sure.
SHORT TRIP STYLE TIP #3
Less is more. The nice idea of a short trip is that you travel light and don’t need to bring the kitchen sink. This will mean you need a little more preparation time to work out your days. What activities and what you want to wear on those days including your shoes and accessories.
If the destination requires lots of walking in the rain then you may not be able to wear the same muddy bottoms again.
SHORT TRIP STYLE TIP #4
Focus on layers. Throughout the day you will experience different temperatures. And you might be working up a sweat hiking the stunning nature Australia has to offer. Layers you can add or take off will keep you comfortable without too much effort.
Have a fun getaway and safe travel!
