I am quite a low maintenance kind of girl when it comes to make up and beauty routines. My care factor of what society expects is zero and I do what I feel comfortable in. Many days I wear no make up at all, giving my skin room to breathe.
a la natural
Botox is not for me even-though I have many fine lines. But I love great skin care and I am super loyal to my lovely Arbonne anti-ageing routine. It is full of anti-oxidants and gives my skin the best chance of hydration.
But I am a curious girl and I love learning about new things. This time I stumbled upon an Instagram video of a gorgeous and natural looking model who “swore” by shaving her face twice per week.
“What”, I thought, “shaving her face”? I instantly thought of stubbles that would grow back. Now my interest was awakened and I started reading through beauty blogs.
a whole new world
A whole new world opened. Kirby Johnson summed it all up for me in her PopSugar article and that night I ordered the two brands of eyebrow and face shavers she talked about.
Being a blonde, I am covered in fair peach floss that is quite obvious. Plus if I have a good look at my mum in her 70’s, I can see I will only get furrier. We have all seen aunties in the side light with hair coming out of all places.

No doubt you will have some questions so here are answers from my personal experience.
stubbles
I held my breath after the first time I shaved my face. What if my face would become a stubbly mess. A rough face to kiss. So here is what I found. Yes, the peach fluff grows back and especially around the ear/jawline it has a slightly rough feeling after a few days. But it is just as rough as other thick skin areas like the jaw.
how often
After the first time shaving I was hooked on the soft baby bottom feeling, so I repeated it every 2 days. I kept finding areas I had not noticed in different mirrors and light in the house.
Then I kind of forgot as I was so smooth and just repeated it once maybe twice per week.
is the knife sharp
Yes sharp enough for the peach fluff but not sharp enough to cut your face. I have seen tutorials where they use disposable blades but I am not game on trying them. As I remember the times I cut myself shaving my legs.
other areas
I also have shaved my arms from the elbow down as they have lots of long hair. It makes them lovely and smooth for ages. I only repeat this every 3 weeks or so.
look out for
Your hairline near your ears as it is easy to give yourself a side burn. And the eyebrows, it is perfect to shave in between the eyebrows and the eyelid, saving you plucking pain. But be aware that the knife is sharp and if you are in a rush you can shave part of your brow off. Take your time and don’t rush.
the good bits
My skin feels soft as a baby’s bottom. And make up is so nice and easy to apply. Love the feeling.
when and how
I like shaving my taut morning skin pre wash or shower. I like it a bit tight so I have more leverage. You can certainly do it after the shower on dry skin as well. If you are very sensitive use a bit of moisterizer. Make it work for your skin and your comfort level.
I work down from the top of my face and have the shaver flush to my face. I have not yet replaced my first shaver so you get value out of the $7 for three.
Alternatives
You have many alternatives for hair removal. Some pricier than others. Some more painful than others. Waxing, lazer, threading and spa treatments. You might like to read my blog on eyesbrows.
