The Ultimate Style Journey of Narelle Murray

Below is the style journey of one my VIP Style Angel Clients, Narelle Murray. It has been such an honour witnessing her style transformation. Narelle was so kind in sharing her style journey with you so you can relate to how it may help you working with a personal stylist in creating a look that you love.

INTRODUCING NARELLE MURRAY

Narelle Murray is an authorised civil marriage celebrant and a justice of the peace and she loves her work. She has been in customer service and sales for most of her working life and she has a friendly and open personality. Narelle lives 200 kilometres south of Sydney and she is a besotted mother of 3 dachshunds.

Narelle is confident in her work but was lacking the same confidence in how she looked. Narelle says, “I wasn’t confident I was looking my best and I wanted to improve my appearance and self confidence.”

So in 2014, Narelle booked in for a Colour and Wardrobe session. This session starts with a Colour Analysis and a Wardrobe Consultation and since Narelle lives 200 kilometres south of Sydney, she also booked in for Make Up Lesson on that same day. We had work to do! So we pulled up our sleeves and started with discovering which colours looked the best on Narelle. After draping Narelle with the colour drapes it became very obvious that warmer and brighter colours suited her much better than cooler and muted. Narelle is a Warm Spring which is Warm colour season and she also best suited to Clear colours.

Narelle now has one of these colour swatches permanently living in her handbag so she always knows what her best colours are that suit her hair, eyes and skin. Of course Narelle still has her favorite colours so I take that into account.  (Click here if you would like one of these swatches!)

 

I measured Narelle’s body shape as this is the second most important step in creating a wardrobe you love. Narelle is very similar in her chest, waist and hip measurements so she is a Rectangle body shape. I highly recommend using my Body Shape calculator in discovering what your body shape is and what styles look best on you.

Before we delved into Narelle’s wardrobe I asked her how she felt about her clothes, she said “My casual wardrobe is dreary and old fashioned. I am wearing the same style and I am not brave enough to break out and try new things. I find Summer more difficult because I don’t like to show too much skin.”

We pulled apart Narelle’s wardrobe to identify all her best pieces and soon enough it was clear what was missing in her wardrobe. Narelle is amazing at picking incredible jackets, hats and shoes to suit her celebrant work. That is her sweet spot. But when it comes to a nice every day casual wardrobe, we had to start from scratch. I created a detailed Gap list for Narelle full of notes of what she loves to wear and what she does not. Narelle also overheats really quickly so I know that layering clothes are perfect for her so she can take off and put on when she needs to.

We completed the day with a Make Up Lesson . Knowing that as a celebrant Narelle appears in photos of most of her clients’ wedding ceremonies, it is important to get her foundation shade perfect and matching her eye shadows and lipstick shades perfectly to Narelle’s best colours.

I created a face chart for her with her best make up colours and together we practised where to put what so to say. Basics but a life saver for Narelle. I exclusively work with Arbonne as their products are amazing, affordable and without any harmful chemicals. Narelle is now also using the Arbonne anti-ageing products to get her skin in the best condition possible. “My skin is much better, less lines, my skin has a healthy glow”, she says.

When I asked Narelle how the Make Up Lesson has helped her she said, “It has helped my business. A lot of emphasis is put on how I look as I do appear in a lot of wedding photos.”

NARELLE’S PERSONAL SHOPPING SESSION

It was time for Narelle’s second part of her style and colour experience; a Style Consultation, so I had work to do to prepare a shopping plan to make sure we got the most out of our 2 hours together in store. 2 weeks later we met at the Diana Ferrari store in Sydney. Narelle was a trooper as she tried on many different outfits. This Style Session became the basis of her new wardrobe that she loves to this day. But it became clear that we still had more work to do.

Narelle says “I live 200 kilometres from Sydney. I made the initial trip to Sydney for my style session. Now I order my clothes online; I know what fits, I know what suits and if I have any questions I contact Angela. My advice – do a style session, get your style sorted and shop online! It works for me.”

NARELLE JOINED THE STYLE ANGEL VIP CLUB

I offered Narelle the opportunity to become a VIP Client. This meant that for 12 months we worked together closely in creating a wardrobe that Narelle loves. Narelle goes to the top of my inbox, her requests are answered first, no matter if it is 10pm at night. We communicate via email, phone, Skype and Pinterest about items Narelle is looking for. I then source them, consult on sizing, communicate my findings and the pieces Narelle loves she buys online or I source sizes in store to make purchase easy.

I have bought quite a few things on my own and I’m confident they suit me. Angela has introduced me to the world of scarves and beautiful jewellery as well.”
