The busiest shopping days of the year have arrived. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are happening this week. Inboxes are filling up with emails to entice you to buy at huge discounts. But how do you shop with confidence? Top Stylist, Angela Barbagallo will share her tips on how to create a wardrobe you love.
Where did Black Friday come from?
Black Friday started in the USA and it immediately follows their Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday in November. It was called Black Friday initially by the Philadelphia Police Department to describe the bad traffic that followed Thanksgiving.
However, there is also an old retail myth driven by the merchants in Philadelphian stores. In the olden days before computers, accountants used to use red ink to denote losses and black ink to denote profit. Thus shopkeepers suggested that Black Friday meant turning a profit.
When Is Black Friday In Australia?
This year it is on Friday, November 24 2017.
Having just spoken to a Westfield spokesperson they are running opening hours as per normal. But you will have online shopfronts at your disposal with the same discounts from the convenience of your comfortable couch.
What is Cyber Monday?
The Monday after Black Friday is known as Cyber Monday and you can expect some really great sales online. This tradition also started in the US to drive online sales.
Love Shopping Online in The USA But They Won’t Ship To Australia?
Australia Post has got you covered! With their clever parcel forwarding service called ShopMate, Australia Post will provide you with a USA shipping address so you can buy from your favourite stores. Australia Post will then forward your order to your Australian shipping address.
There are restrictions to what you can and can’t ship so have a look on the ShopMate website for all details. It will also mention US customs and Australian taxes you need to be aware of.
Shopping in the US also comes with a currency caution as the US dollar versus the Australian Dollar makes shopping more expensive for Aussies. But if you love the item, it will be worth it to have something different.
