With the weather fining up it is the perfect time to explore what sandals, flats, thongs or slides work best for your foot.
One sandal shape does not suit all, so here is a list of criteria I run through before selecting a style for a client or myself.
YOUR FEET PROPORTIONS
The size of your foot, the width of your foot, the width of your ankle and calves are the starting point of any sandal or shoe research.
Looking great is simply a range of questions and the more ticks you get the better you will look.
Instead of falling in love with the sandal, I prefer to select with intention the shoe that fits your proportions best.
Foot elements such as bunions, high arch, low arch, bad ankle, wider fit, slimmer fit, kankle etc will all play a huge role in how comfortable you will be in the shoe you choose.
SANDAL LINE AND DESIGN
This is where I spend the most time, in a rapid pace in my head. So let me show you some examples of common shapes.
Designs that heavily go across your feet will make your feet look wider. Cross over, cut out shapes or multiple smaller bands over the foot will make you look smaller.
SANDAL COLOUR, PATTERN, TEXTURE AND SHINE
You will be able to control the level of attention that will go to your feet. Darker colours on lighter skin will direct the interest to your feet.
A sandal neutral tone will blend in more than a white option. A light neutral pattern will make your feet look smaller than a heavy, dark pattern.
The super shiny sandal metallics that are on trend, could make larger feet look bigger and smaller feet extra small as it overpowers. A subtle sparkle will be more enhancing.
Nothing is right or wrong, it is simply an observation that needs your answer; “do I want that or not?”
LEG UP
Ankle straps, large banding up the foot create horizontal lines that will make your ankle look larger. If you feel you want to slim down the lower leg and ankle then choose a lighter sandal colour or a shoe that has no ankle strap.
