Wearing Your Best Colours.....the Quickest Way to Lots of Compliments PART 1
The impact of colour should never be underestimated. Some colours enhance your appearance, giving you an image of health, youth and vitality, while other colours detract, leaving you looking tired, old and ill.
Your best Colours are based on the tone of your skin, the colour of your eyes and hair and we highly recommend getting your Colour Season confirmed by a Colour Consultant every 6 to 8 years. Of course we would love to assist you!! Over time your best colours will change as your skin, hair and eyes change colour and intensity, you will find that the colours you used to be able to wear you can't pull off anymore.
When you have a look at your wardrobe you will find that some outfits you just love because of the colours and others you never wear for that same reason.
Many times I have heard clients say, the style of the garment is great, it fits but I never wear it and I don’t know why... Intuitively you will pick colours that suit you mostly when you are in a great mood whilst you are shopping and there is no pressure to buy. You most likely will pick up a garment that appeals to you because of the colour and when you hold it against your face and skin you will see yourself looking healthy.
From experience shops or shopping assistants are not very helpful in displaying your best colours so you will have to use your instinct. Most seasons we are limited to what buyers and designers come up with and they are in turn influenced by what happens on the catwalk in Paris and Milan. This does not necessarily mean that these colours will suit you, you may find that some seasons you can wear every colour in the shop and other seasons you will find it hard to pick anything.
Here are some Colour Quick Tips:
- If you are sick of the colours in your wardrobe (...we know black, black and more black), book in for a Colour Consultation or a Colour Workshop. You will amazed by the Colour Swatch and how easy it becomes to find great outfits!
- There are a few Universal Colours that suit everyone. This is because they are mainly neutral and are neither Cool or Warm. Here is your choice ....Soft White (fare better option than Bright White on most people), Emerald Turquoise, Aqua, Warm Pink, Earthy Red, Teal Green, Teal Blue, Chocolate , Purple blue, Purple, Marine Navy, Plum, Banana Yellow, Watermelon Red , Apple Green, Stone, Medium, Cool Grey, Champagne.
- To make your eyes stand out wear colours near your face (like necklaces, scarves or ties for the guys) that are very close to eye colours, we call these Eye Enhancing Colours. Ask someone to have a look for you as you more than likely have 3 to 4 colours in your eyes. Yes "Blue" eyes is a myth, you could have a Teal Blue ring around the eyes with lots of Chambray Blue through the eye and hazel spots around the iris.
- Strategies for "How to Successfully Wear Black"... The following tips only count for people who don't have black as one of their best colours. Show lots of skin and bring in your best colours in accessories like scarves, ties (guys), necklaces, earrings, bangles etc. For the ladies try and wear a bit more make up and a suitable lipstick colour. If you have lots of fine lines in your face, black will accentuate this even further so try and avoid this colour above the waistline.
Wearing Your Best Colours.....the Quickest Way to Lots of Compliments PART 2
I would like to demonstrate how certain colours look fantastic on one person and not so great on another.
Sean Connery and Caroline of Monaco are both "Cool Winter" Colour Seasons and they look great in the cooler or blue based colours. As you can see they have black in their colour swatch as one of their best colours.
Sarah Ferguson and Cynthia Nixon from Sex in the City are both natural Red Heads and fall in the "Warm Autumn" Colour Season. They are more suited to the richer, warmer based tones that are red/yellow based. There is no black in this colour swatch, the closest is a rich warm charcoal.
In our Colour Workshops, Colour Consultations or Online Colour Consultations I work with 12 different Colour Seasons to really cater for different hair, eye and skin colours. My clients who have purchased a Colour Swatch are finding shopping easier and have usually started with cleaning out their wardrobe and recycling all their not-so-great colours. I highly recommend setting your goals towards having your personal colours consultation!
