Tailoring Tips for Her
Looking after your investments that hang in your wardrobe or investments you are contemplating is crucial. On our recent holiday in Phuket we were inundated with tailors who promise everything under the Sun but do they deliver….? After two disappointing tailor experiences in Bangkok we were skeptical but we were pleasantly surprised to find a fresh concept developed by Amorn and his Wife Renu on the island of Phuket that made the whole experience pleasant and successful. Below you find some useful tips on what to look for in the fit of your garments!
Tips For HER
Perfect Fit
The Perfect Jacket is very personal and depends on your body shape, height and length of your legs. Jackets with three buttons offer women the best all round look. Make sure that at least one button sits on the natural waistline. The length of your jacket is crucial, a jacket length that comes to your knuckles is flattering on most women. If you feel that this length is not sufficient enough to cover your thighs it will need to be lengthened to suit your proportions.
The rule for sleeve lengths is that you are not able to touch the jacket when you close your hand with your arm stretched down next to your body. Usually where the arm meets your hand. If you are a lover of showing off your french cuffs or your accessories you could even go slightly shorter. Allow for 1.5cm of your shirt to show.
From our experience sleeve length is where most women make little effort to organise the appropriate alterations, so our advice…. go and have a look at your wardrobe and try on your jackets including coats. You will be surprised what a difference the right sleeve length will make on how stylish, tidy and organised you look!
When it comes to your best pair of pants Style, Fabric and Fit are the three factors to consider. A straight or slightly flared pair will suit most body shapes, a pinstripe or front ironed crease line will make your legs look longer and slimmer and softer flowing fabric that has a nice feel to it will look most flattering.
The length of your pants should balance your proportions and height and as a general rule the hem of long pants should end at the top of the heel of your shoes.
Side pockets on pants are very common and can often add cm's to your hips so make sure you select the right fit for you. No pockets on the side or back are often the most flattering on women.
Removing cuffs on trousers and shorts will make your legs look longer and slimmer.
Skirts can very flattering on most shapes especially if the hem finishes at a narrow part of your leg in proportion with your height and shape. Just above and below the knee and where the calf slims down are great lengths.
Every Woman's body is different so please do not feel frustrated when you can't find the perfect fit on your shopping trips. Make sure that items fit you well in crucial parts such as shoulders, arms and hips and use alterations to complete the perfect fit for you. Keep in mind the possibility of having the perfect garment replicated by a tailor in different fabrics and colours, perhaps hold on to those perfect fitting items for this purpose.
