Sticking to your budget is really important to have a guilt free shopping trip.
The amount of tags I have seen on items never worn in clients’ wardrobe is proof that there is room for improvement. Be a smart buyer and take charge.
It won’t be the first time I share these very conservative statistics of what wasted budget could be tied up in your wardrobe.
This is what I wrote in Part 1 of the 10 Most Important Things to Look for When You Shop:
“Statistics say that most women ONLY love and wear 20% of the clothes in their wardrobe all the time!
On average you probably have at least 100 items in total in your wardrobe with an average price tag of $75 per garment.
100 Garments x 20% = 20 items that get most of the wear
80 items you don’t often/never wear x $75 per item = $6,000
You may be even have more than 80 items you never wear and perhaps a higher than $75 average price tag.
You can do the sums and change the final figure but the message is clear: aimlessly shopping could possibly cost you a lot of money.”
Forget the past and make a change!
Here are my tips on how to create and safeguard your budget:
➜ Budget your Budget
Everyone’s financial situation is different and it is important that you work out what budget you need or want to spend on clothes each quarter. For you, your wardrobe may be a tool of the trade so to say which means that you have to invest wisely in outfits that serve your career. (more on this below!)
I am all for making smart decisions that work for you and over-extending your finances can create a lot of stress. Putting money away each month ready for the perfect addition to your wardrobe will make you love wearing it.
➜ Keep the tags and receipts of your purchase.
As a part of you being totally in charge of your wardrobe, I also suggest that you keep the tags and receipts of your purchases until you are 100% happy with your purchase. Check what the terms of a full refund are of each item and set alarms in your phone.
➜ Never ever settle for anything less than a 10 out of 10. I have shared this before and I will do it again as it is important. From socks to undies, to jackets, tops and pants. It all has to feel nice, fit well, excite you, ignite passion and make you feel great. Why otherwise buy it? Why spend your hard earnt dollar on something less than that? No Stylist would let you get away with anything less than perfect.

Part 7 – Spot The Look
What to do when you walk into a clothing store? This is when the magic starts. You are loaded with ideas of what you are looking for. Either individual items or entire new looks.
In Part 7 you get an exclusive insight into the process I go through selecting the items that ultimately will make it to the top items to buy.
