Autumn/Winter 2010 sees the Yumi collection strengthen its design aesthetic, showcasing iconic hero pieces alongside modern classics in their distinctive prints and eclectic designs. Appealing to long-standing fans and destined to attract new admirers, this range offers standout pieces and must-have items for every wardrobe.
Divided into three distinct trends, inspiration for the first story comes from a mythical wonderland, a far-away land of spellbinding creations and multi –coloured fauna and flora. The silhouette combines classic tunics and a-lines with twists of the unexpected; ruched detailing and oversized pockets add interest whilst the in-house designed prints and their placement create a definite statement. The predominately dark palette of bewitching berry tones is highlighted with injections of electric brights. Soft faux-fur coats and quirky leopard prints add a curious, quirky edge whilst adding warmth and depth.
Hero items; the Russian doll print dress and appliqué detail skirt; offer a unique design statement and are destined to be a Winter must-have.
The glamour and panache of the 1950’s offers a softer, more romantic direction for the second story in the collection. Vintage-style lace detailing is utilised against a strong monochrome palette accented with soft pink. Additions of pearls, delicate frills and shimmering qualities to fabrics provide feminine touches throughout.
Hero piece; the bouclé, puff shoulder detail a-line tunic is already a fashion staple for celebrities and fashionista’s alike.
‘Sky of Dreams’ becomes the finale to the trends, which displays an impressive use of both print and colour to stunning effect. Set against a muted palette of greys and blues, atmospheric illustrations influenced by clouds and angels can be found on soft flowing chiffons and sumptuous printed knitwear including soft touch oversized knitted jumper dresses.
Yumi Head of Design Catrin Watkins comments,
“Dresses are the item this season; individually designed, dressed up or down, it’s about versatility; having a great piece that can take you through from day to night and work with your own style to create a truly bespoke look. Fabrics are key, go for a soft and luxurious feel and be brave…. it’s all about colour. ”
EDITOR’S NOTES; Yumi is the sister brand of Uttam London and is available to purchase through key independent stockists nationwide. The brand is internationally acclaimed and has a celebrity following that includes Lily Allen, Sienna Miller and Alesha Dixon.
