There are many styles that will suit every face shape and fashion changes constantly.
The following information contains the most important aspects of a good style for your face shape.
A diamond face is broad at the cheekbones and narrow at both the forehead and the chin.
Your Goal is to look for hair styles that visually broaden your forehead and chin.
Characteristics of a Good Style:
- Styles which add fullness at the temples and/or the jaw line.
- Hair close to the head in the area of your cheekbones.
- Slightly off centre parts with a fringe that sweeps to the side will break the ‘pointiness’ of your forehead.
- Medium length styles and hair swept up into a bun etc.
- Styles with loose hair around the face should have symmetrical lines in the hair design.
Avoid:
- Very short styles and centre parts.
- Fullness at the ear line.
- Close cut hair at the temples.
- Too much height on the top of the head.

Here is a sample of what hair styles look great:
The Right Short Hairstyle: Here our model shows a good example of what hairstyle suits diamond face shapes. The bangs help to shorten the length of our models face which is what is needed for diamond faces. The side part helps make the face appear wider by creating the illusion of one larger shape which the eye focuses on. The sides are soft and wispy and curve into a round shape. Variations of this hairstyle will work in any other texture.
The Wrong Short Hairstyle: This short hairstyle is all wrong for diamond face shapes. The height created on top (particularly in a middle pointed way) only emphasizes a diamond shape. The very short bangs also only add to the illusion of height. What is needed is width rather than height. This hairstyle shows what not to have!
The Right Medium Hairstyle: This is a very nice cut which adds hair in all the right places and compliments diamond face shapes. The bangs help make the face and chin area appear less long while the wispy hair to the shoulders creates a squarer shape, again creating width not length. This hairstyle will work on all textures and will look great with layers as they will make the appearance of the style even softer.
The Wrong Medium Hairstyle: This look shows what hairstyle not to have when you have a diamond face shape. The wispy long lengths only make our models face look longer, while the absence of any bangs once again creates a longer shape that is not needed.
The Right Long Hairstyle: Now this is a nice look for our model. The bangs immediately shorten the overall length of the face while the soft layered sides fall nicely to the shoulders drawing attention away from long lines. This shape will work equally well on wavy and curly textures and is a very good example of what to wear!
The Wrong Long Hairstyle: Same model, but look at the difference! This hairstyle shows how important face shape selection is when it comes to choosing any hairstyle. The middle part actually makes the face appear longer while the wispy layers seem to fall nowhere in particular and appear lifeless. The absence of bangs makes the face appear longer than it really is.
Eye Wear
- Women with a diamond face shape have a narrow forehead and chin, while their cheekbones are wide and high and even in some
- cases dramatic.
- The best are those that are narrow on the upper frame and wider on the lower.
- Look for frames with soft gentle curves.
- Good styles are also those that are attention seeking above the eye line in width or decoration.
- Do not allow frames to hide your great cheekbones.
- Your frames will also need to be sized in proportion to your head. A woman who has a small head size will need smallerframes for balance and vice versa.
- A low bridge will shorten a long nose and a high bridge will lengthen a short nose.
- Update your glasses every two or three years with a current style.
- Do not wear obvious bifocals with a line. They make you look out of style and out-of-date. Ask for no-line progressive lenses.
Make-up
- Apply a lighter foundation at the sides of the forehead and at the jaw line.
- Widen the chin and jaw line by placing a darker foundation on the cheekbones (not the hollows).
- Blush should not be applied lower than the nose.
- Apply blush under and over the jaw and on the chin tip to soften the natural diamond shape.
I highly recommend to book yourself into a Make Up Workshop or Make
Up Lesson with a Professional Make Up Artist as she will teach you what
works for you and what doesn't. What colours are great on you and which
aren't so great. I personally work with Rozlyne Vidal (check out her
website on www.rozlynevidal.com) and her next workshop with a focus on Eye Make Up Application is coming up on the 2nd of June in Engadine. Click here for more details.
Earrings:
Choose earrings that add width to compensate for the narrowing chin line.
The best are those that are narrower on the upper side and then wider on the lower. The best shapes include:
- Tear drops
- Pear shapes
- Ovals
- Triangle shapes
- Chandelier
Hats:
- Choose full looking hats that have large brims.
- Take your body's scale into account when selecting how wide your brim is to be. Don't get caught looking like a mushroom.
- The best width is never wider than your shoulders
